MX curtain walling system from Technal

MX curtain walling system

Architectural aluminium curtain walling specialist Technal has developed an innovative new curtain walling system, MX, which it says will offer the widest variety of design options from a single grid. Options include faceted, structural, and sloping glazing. All are designed to achieve low U-values compliant with Part L, thanks to a 19mm polyamide thermal break design and the detailing of the gaskets. MX will be used at Cartwright Pickard Architects’ new 16-storey, fully glazed residential tower at the I Quarter development in Sheffield, where 250 top-hung casement windows will be inserted into the curtain walling to provide natural ventilation to the apartments. 1. Dortech Archtectural Systems Ltd was the facade company that designed, manufactured and installed the curtain walling to this project and used Technals MX visible grid curtain wall system. The project was originally unitized, however Dortech value engineered it to include breaks at each floor slab. We also designed the special ‘bat-wing’ pressings that cloak each floor slab. The project incorporates over 3,300m2 of glazing in total. Should you require photos of the completed work, please let me know and I will be happy to supply; jamessutherland@dortech.co.uk. Technals products accounted for less than 25% of the facade cost.
