Regency Lighting Celebrates Their 25th Anniversary

In February 2008, Regency Lighting celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary, marking their dependability and success in the lighting industry by remembering their history.

Regency Lighting opened their doors in Van Nuys, CA in 1983. The cofounders, Ron Regenstreif and Mike Goldstone, hired two sales representatives and an administrative assistant to help run their new business of distributing light bulbs. They couldn’t afford a full-time driver, so they hired a part-time college student with a pickup truck to deliver products. They began with a $5,000 investment, which allowed for the purchase of only enough inventory to fill a 200 square-foot warehouse. Regency was so small that none of the lighting manufacturers were willing to consider them as a distributor. Finally, after three years, Sylvania took a chance on Regency Lighting.

Today, Regency Lighting is one of Osram Sylvania’s largest distributors in the country and is ranked in Electrical Wholesaling’s top 100 Electrical Distributors, an astonishing feat for a company only selling in the small-niche industry of lighting. Regency has 260 employees and six locations strategically located across the nation. They have established relationships with some of the world’s largest lighting manufacturers such as Osram Sylvania and Philips, and their customers include some of the most well-known names in business.

Over the years, Ron and Mike have broadened Regency’s business to become a full category manager of lighting related products and services. Regency partners with companies in their design, development, and execution of solutions for new store construction, lighting retrofits, scheduled and on call maintenance, fulfillment of replacement lamp orders, and disposal of hazardous lamp wastes. Even during this tumultuous economy, Regency is trending to increase their profits in 2008.

Regency already assists customers in realizing energy savings by offering energy audits, lighting controls, and cutting edge lighting technology in LED and metal halide products. In addition, an increased number of employees are acquiring their certified lighting credentials, which will allow Regency to continue to expand the services they provide to customers.
