Instead of compressors and refrigerants, the OASys from Speakman CRS uses direct and indirect evaporative cooling to provide energy-efficient air-conditioning. It works by running fresh outdoor air through a heat exchanger, followed by a water-saturated membrane that adds humidity and provides filtration.
The SEER 40 Plus model uses up to 80 percent less energy than normal air-conditioners, requiring fewer than 600 watts to produce up to 3.5 tons of cooling. It can run on 110V AC, photovoltaic DC, or a combination of both. The system provides effective conditioning when humidity is 60 percent or less. Water use is 3 to 5 gallons per hour.
