Seven projects in London, including the Barking Learning Centre in the photo above, have been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award 2008. The award was set up to highlight how good design can play a part in regeneration.

Nationally, 21 buildings made the shortlist, with a third of them being from London. The Barking Learning Centre.

The St Marylebone School Performing Arts Centre is another project in London that has been shortlisted for the Better Public Building Award 2008.

Another London finalist, Langdon Park DLR station, was praised for transforming “the identity of a deprived and isolated part of east London.”

The Young Vic Theatre has made the shortlist following a meticulous and sensitive restoration.

Also on the shortlist, the Royal Festival Hall following its multi-million pound restoration.

The Cremorne Riverside Centre, a canoeing facility in Chelsea, also made the shortlist.

The National Theatre Studio in Waterloo was re-opened in Autumn 2007 and has made the Better Public Building Award shortlist.

The winner of the Better Public Building Award will be announced on 8th October 2008.
