Groundbreaking Held for University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro

In the next three years, over 7.2 million pounds of structural steel will be erected, 360,000 cubic feet of concrete will be placed and 250,000 sheets of gypsum drywall will be set on a jobsite in Plainsboro, New Jersey to complete a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will revolutionize the way patients receive healthcare. Today, Princeton HealthCare System held the groundbreaking ceremony to mark beginning of construction for University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro (UMCPP). Turner Construction is the construction manager on this $441 million project.

Plans for the 636,000 square-foot medical center integrate evidence-based design that helps to facilitate the healing process. When visitors come to the facility, they will enter a main concourse that leads into the various portals known as Centers of Care that focus on specific clinical specialties. There are eight Centers of Care: Cancer, Cardiac and Pulmonary Care, Neuroscience, Maternal-Child Health, Surgery, Emergency Services, Eating Disorders and Testing and Treatment.

Reilly, Vice President and General Manager for Turner Construction New Jersey. “Strategically designed to focus on the patient’s needs and wants while promoting a comfortable, safe and stress-reduced environment while being eco-friendly is what sets University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro apart from other hospitals in the country,” said Reilly.

For inpatient stays, the hospital will feature private canted rooms designed to prevent the spread of infections, reduce falls, increase visibility and improve communications. Designated “family zones” have been designed with visitors in mind and overnight sleeping accommodations are provided in patient rooms.
