Foreclosure Clinic to Be Held in Columbia for South Carolina Homeowners

Tuesday, August 5th 2008

The Homeownership Resource Center, a division of Family Services Inc., will hold a one-day only mortgage default clinic for all South Carolina homeowners at risk of foreclosure on Saturday, August 9, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbia Radisson Hotel located at 2100 Bush River Road. This one-time-only event will allow homeowners who are facing foreclosure or behind on their mortgage payment to meet with a HUD-approved counselor one-on-one to discuss their financial options.

Clinics will be held each hour from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Homeowners are only required to attend one session before meeting one-on-one with a HUD-approved counselor.

The Homeownership Resource Center received a federal grant in December 2007 to provide mortgage foreclosure intervention and loss mitigation counseling assistance to homeowners throughout South Carolina until the end of 2008. This special one-day mortgage default clinic is one of the many services provided through this grant to help families experiencing financial difficulties.

“Last year our staff assisted more than 500 South Carolina residents in foreclosure and was able to save more than 350 homes from foreclosure,” said Debbie Kidd, director of The Homeownership Resource Center. “Already this year, we have assisted more than 800 homeowners throughout South Carolina that are facing foreclosure. Those numbers demonstrate the crisis we are facing.”

South Carolina homeowners having trouble paying their mortgage are encouraged to attend this one-day only event. For more information or to receive free foreclosure counseling call 1-888-320-0350 or visit www.ForeclosureHelpforSC.org.
