This home was designed for a builder turned developer. The idea was to build a new development of “Affordable, Green, Modern Homes.” Stylistically the developer was looking for “Usonian meets Dwell Home.”
The homes were to be single story, slab-on-grade designs for ease of construction. For energy efficiency and quick construction the design was to be built with SIP panelized construction. A core concept was used, housing all the bathrooms, kitchen and utility spaces in a central core which separated the living and sleeping zones of the house. The design was to have an exposed polished concrete slab which facilitated a radiant floor heating system and lots of passive solar thermal mass.
This was to be the prototype for that development. There were several variations of the design that included a fourth bedroom, a basement, a garage and/or a bonus office room.
Unfortunately the development never came to fruition.
