Michael Baker Engineering, Inc., an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Alternext US:BKR) announced that Bill Hood, P.E., RLA, LEED AP, has been appointed office principal for Baker’s Cary, North Carolina, office. He will be responsible for operations management, office administration, financial management, project oversight and business development for all of Baker’s activities in Cary. Hood’s extensive experience with NCDOT and other transportation clients will facilitate Baker’s growth in North Carolina and adjacent areas.

“We are excited about Bill joining our team and helping to expand Baker’s services in North Carolina and throughout the Southeast,” said Dave Thompson, senior vice president and South area manager. “His background in roadway design and ‘green’ site development will complement our existing expertise in transportation planning and environmental restoration.”

Hood was formerly principal and chief engineer at Mulkey Engineers and Consultants, where he served as project manager, project engineer or principal-in-charge on numerous complex roadway, civil and site design projects involving multiple disciplines, accelerated schedules and adherence to project schedules and budgets and overall project management. Most recently, he was the project director for the Fayetteville Street Renaissance project in downtown Raleigh, N.C., an economic development project that encompassed site/civil work, roadway design and urban design in a challenging urban setting. The reopened Fayetteville Street has become a symbol of the North Carolina Capitol and has been highlighted on several national television broadcasts, including Good Morning America. Hood also recently managed the infrastructure improvements related to the proposed NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte, N.C.

Hood is a professional engineer registered in four states, a Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University.
