Armitage-Halsed District: 910 West Armitage

The Armitage-Halsted District is a remarkably intact, late nineteenth-century neighborhood commercial district. Centered on what was the intersection of two major streetcar lines, this transportation ‘crossroads’ exploded into a major neighborhood shopping area. Buildings in the district typically have commercial storefronts on the ground floor with residential units above. This new 3-story masonry building has a contemporary metal-and-glass, ground-floor retail storefront, with punched openings with double-hung windows above, consistent with the historic scale and character of the district. The Armitage-Halsted District was designated a Chicago Landmark on February 5, 2003.
